Celtic 0 - Luxembourg 36

Weather: 12°. Some clouds but sunny
Pitch: Very Good
Start: 11:00 (2 x 30 minutes)
Spectators: 6

Luxembourg started:

1- Xavier, 2- Yannick, 3- Niclas, 4- Louis, 5- David, 6- Lucas, 7- Antoine R, 8- Pedro (C), 9-Micky, 10- Benji, 11- Stanley, 12- Callum, 13- Christopher, 14- Joe, 15- Matthew

Subs: Jason, Quentin, Pierre and Charly

Scorers: Pedro (2T), Stanley, Yannick, Matthew (1T, 1C), Joe and Benji (2C)

With three players in the U18 European Championship and the school holidays, only 6 players of last week’s starting team were present. Not surprisingly, it took some time for the team to settle down and get the positioning right. The first try came at the 7th minute: Celtic gave away a penalty 10m from their line. We kept the ball with the forwards and after 3 rucks well played, Micky opened to Antoine on the blind; he passed to Stanley who scored on the corner. The second try came at the 13th minute. After several short passes in the forwards, always on the move, the ball ended with Antoine and, in a nice switch move, passed to Pedro who entered in the middle to score. On the 22nd minute, another good move in the forwards ended in the third try. From a scrum, the ball was played in the blind side and with a good support from all the forwards they progressed for 20m. Yannick was the last one to have the ball and score.
Half time score: 15-0.
Second half wasn’t very different. Celtic was putting a brave fight but was unable to be dangerous. Even with a lot of absences, our defence was as strong as in the other games, explaining why we only conceded 13 points in 7 games. As it happened in other games we still make some mistakes in the running lines or in the last pass which stop us to score tries we should normally score.
We could only score again in the 41st minute. From a scrum on the right 5m from Celtic try line, Pedro took the ball and ran to the center where he was tackled. From the ruck, Micky opened quickly to Matthew who came in support and he entered in the center to score. Matthew converted. On the 44th minute, thanks to a succession of penalties – holding ball on the ground, off side and not 10m – Celtic came in our 22. We managed a turnover on the right side, the ball was passed to the left and Pedro carried it for 50m. When defence came, he passed to Joe inside and he ended the move scoring between posts. The perfect counter attack. Benji converted. Last try came at the 50th minute. We had a penalty 15m from their line in the right. We played with the forwards but managed to lose the ball. Celtic recycled it in the backs but when the ball arrived at the center field our defence was already there and Pedro intercepted it to score again between posts. Benji converted.
It was a pleasant game to watch, with nice weather, good refereeing, and very fair play Celtic team much improved since we played in October.
Four of the tries were a result of collective actions and the team defended well though there’s still work ahead. We missed too many scoring opportunities because the last pass isn’t good enough or the receiver is not well positioned.
The last word is for the referee Mr. Verboven who did an excellent job.

Luxembourg 43 - Hesby 0

Weather: 12°. Rain
Pitch: Muddy
Kickoff: 11:30 (2 x 30 minutes)
Spectators: 18

With a very good refereeing from Mr. Olberst, Luxembourg started:

1- Jordi, 2- Quentin, 3- Niclas, 4- Mario D, 5- Gabriel, 6- Frederico, 7- Antoine R, 8- Pedro (C), 9-Micky, 10- Benji, 11- Stanley, 12- Callum, 13- Stuart, 14- James, 15- Sean

Subs: 32” 16- Jason for Jordi; 34” 17- Louis for Gabriel; 35” 20- Christopher for James; 37” 18- Lucas for Antoine and 19- Matthew for Sean; 40” 21- Hugo for Stanley

Scorers: Tries- Stuart (2), Pedro(2), Benji, Hugo and Quentin. Conversions- Benji(4)

From the kickoff Luxembourg went straight away into the opposition 22. After several phases where we were close to open the score it finally came at the 5th minute. A 22 restart kick went wide to the left ending in the hands of Stuart whom, after avoiding the tackle, ran straight to the line. Benji converted.
At the 13th minute we scored again. Hesby ran a counter attack and they were stopped in our 40m. Pedro caught the ball from the ground and ran 60m unchallenged. Benji converted.
On the 17th minute, Stuart got the ball inside our half and went straight. Inside their 22 and to avoid an arriving defender made a nice kick and chase only to be pushed without ball. Penalty try, converted by Benji.
After this try the game wasn’t particularly interesting to watch with lots of knock ons and fouls. A combination of individual playing, the muddy pitch, a slippery ball and a brave Hesby team giving all their hearts to stop our players, explains why. The score stayed unchanged till half time: 21-0
Second half was much better to watch. The team played more collective and made some nice moves with the forwards and in the backs.
On the 40th minute, five beautiful consecutive passes ended in the hands of Pedro who scored on the wing. On the 45th minute a penalty 5m from the try line was taken quickly by Pedro who passed to Benji to score and convert. At the 18th minute in another good move, Benji passed to Pedro who fixed two defenders and opened the way for Hugo to score on the wing. Finally, in the last minute, we won a line out near their try line and from the subsequent ruck, Quentin took the ball and scored.
Final score: 43-0

Luxembourg 7 - BoitsfortB 0

Weather: 5° and cloudy

Pitch: Good
Start: 11:00 (2 x 35 minutes)
Spectators: 58

With Mr. Lorre referring, Luxembourg started:

1- Xavier, 2- Yannick, 3- Niclas, 4- Mario D, 5- Gabriel, 6- Frederico, 7- AntoineR, 8- Pedro (C), 9-Micky, 10- Benji, 11- Hugo, 12- Callum, 13- Stuart, 14- Gregoire, 15- Sean
Subs: 40’ 22- Pascal for Hugo, 50’ 19- Lucas for Frederico, 55’ 20-Matthew for Benji, 16-Pierre, 17-Quentin, 18- Louis and 21-Francesco
Scorers: Antoine and Benji(C)
Yellow Card: Antoine

Certainly inspired by the presence of Rachid (welcome back!), for a change we started the game very well.  Straight from the kick off BoistsfortB was under pressure and, apart for some sporadic moves, the game was most of the time near their 22. This attitude paid off at the 8th minute when we kept the ball alive moving forward and it ended up in the hands of Antoine who was unstoppable 2m from the line. Benji made the conversion with a difficult kick. After opening the score we took the normal BoitsfortB reaction but we were never really in danger. In the last 10 minutes we came back and if it wasn’t for some mistakes in the last pass and a good defence from Boitsfort we could have finish the game. At half time the score was 7-0.
As expected, second half started with Boitsfort giving all they could to score. It didn’t last long as our strong defence stopped short any attempt to get close to our try line. Even when playing with 14, when Antoine saw a yellow card at the 8th minute thanks to his big mouth, the team stayed united and survived the 10 minutes sin bin without damage.
The game kept very tight, Luxembourg dominating the scrums, BoitsfortB dominating the line outs. However, one had the feeling we were always more threatening to the opposition defensive and only the same mistakes as in first half and some bad decisions prevented us from scoring again. Benji had the opportunity to put us in a more comfortable score but his two kicks from a long distance were just short.
The final whistle arrived with the score 7-0 which puts us in a good position to win the group stage and go to the finals. The team did not play their best rugby but played with soul, amazing courage and fighting spirit with a superb defence and interesting collective moves when attacking. The final word goes for BoitsfortB. They’re an excellent team and gave us two very competitive games.

U17 - 3B Belgium Cadets Luxembourg - Boitsfort2

This Saturday we will receive our friends from Boitsfort B for the game which may decide who will go top of the group.

 LUXEMBOURG – BOISTFORT 2

Kick off: 11:00

rue de l’Alzette
Walferdange

Be there at 9:30 (Dressing room behind Walferdange city stadium)

Please, bring the CSCE uniform (polo and tracksuit) and clothes to protect from the cold (yes, it will be cold)
If you have club’s shorts and/or socks please, bring them with you.

As we are uncertain of the availability of one or two players, I’m selecting 23 although we can only register 22 in the game sheet. Again, I hope every one of you understand you’re part of the same team playing or not. Fortunately, you’re corresponding to our efforts with a good presence at the trainings so, when it comes to selection choices have to be made (nice problem I have). I’m picking up the ones I think are playing better or, sometimes, that are just a bit more inspired for the moment.
For the ones who are not in the list, please, come and support your team. Next time it will be your turn to be on the pitch and be supported.
